With only two weeks to go until the big day we are busy making plans for the 1st birthday. I still can’t believe that it is this time of year again but equally I am so excited about the next few weeks.
For the last few months now I have been thinking about how we wanted to celebrate and what we wanted to do. Then I realised that the most important thing was that we were surrounded by the people who are most important to us and who have been there for us throughout this crazy first year. We are so lucky to have some amazing family and friends around us and these are the people who matter.
Living in a flat we are a bit limited on space so after some thought (and counting just the cousins and realising that would be tight) we decided to look into hiring a small village hall the weekend after the birthday. It means we can have everybody in one space and all of the children can have lots of space to play. I’ve been in touch with our local toy library too where you can hire some soft play items for parties etc. This will be great for them all to play with and will hopefully keep everybody entertained.
On the actual day we will be having a family day just the 3 of us and visiting one of the local farms. Having a December baby we have the added bonus of the Christmas feel to everywhere so I am really looking forward to wrapping up and heading out to Christmas decorations, music and people dressed as Santa’s elves!
Whilst thinking about the big birthday of course the challenge of what to buy was also on my mind. Is there such thing as a perfect birthday present? Does it have to be something memorable? There are so many things out there that would be lovely to buy but we have to be a little bit practical I guess. If I’m honest if I was to wrap up a cardboard box she would be perfectly happy and entertained for weeks!
We have had fun looking though and it’s a whole new world looking into children’s toys. There is so much to choose from! My favourites are the Vtech Toot Toot sets (yes I know we are all driven mad by the Vtech songs after only a few days!). I love how the sets can be bought separately and then added to. We opted for the main starter track and a couple of the vehicles. There are so many of these and I could have bought all of them if I hadn’t been stopped! It will be fun to add to them though and another little set could possibly be under the tree on Christmas Day. (Santa is a kind man and just knows what children want!).
As well as some other bits I have bought a few books. I love books and children’s books especially have some special magic to them. We started bedtime stories a few months ago and I don’t think I even need the book now to read ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’.
I know a lot of people say the 1st birthday is mostly for the parents. Our little won’t know that it is her birthday but I will make sure I tell her lots in the lead up and the countdown begins now so she will defiantly be part of that.
For me the first birthday marks a few things. Of course the first big birthday of my little girl. The anniversary of the best day of our lives. It also marks the end of the most life changing, toughest, amazing year of my life and I can’t wait to celebrate that.
